Originally written in 2022 for the Ars Electronica Garden Aotearoa festival, 'Circles' is a personal expression and love letter of the abstract, transcendent beauty I see in circles, recursion, and infinite/repeating patterns throughout nature. I used a range of musical elements in this track to express the entrancing nature of repetition and circular motion: the unwavering repetition of 10-bar phrases, melodic sonification of the digits of Pi, minimalist rhythmic repetition of melody, etc.

I wrote this work using the visual coding environment Max/MSP, allowing me to perform it as a live piece with a customised parameter controlling system. This released recording was performed by hand, based on my original performance!
